Salers is currently present on the majority of French departments , with a total of 210 000 cows (bdni 2015). It is well established in the region Lorraine , Champagne- Ardennes , Picardy, Normandy and Brittany.
With a workforce of more than 100,000 cows, Cantal department remains the first of the Salers breed.
